FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CAN I SIGN UP FOR BOTH WEEKS? Yes! You can register for both weeks if you would to be a part of two different musical developments.

WILL I NEED TO SUBMIT AN AUDITION FOR ROLE CONSIDERATION? Yes. Each student actor must submit an audition form which requires:

  • headshot
  • résume (optional)
  • self-tape submission of a 90 second performative vocal cut
  • 1-minute monolougue
  • 1-minute dance reel

WHAT IS A DANCE REEL? Any video or montage of video showcasing your dance abilities. You can create something specifically for this, or you can showcase material from a previous production/dance class you were in.

WHAT KIND OF SONG SHOULD I SING? Any song that you feel best showcases your talents.

ARE THERE ANY TAPING INSTRUCTIONS:
If you are using an iPhone to video record, please be sure to film horizontally and in a well-lit space (not backlit). Please send the video, along with a photo/résume (if they have a résume), in a downloadable format (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.).

ARE CALLBACKS MANDATORY? Yes. Each student actor must participate in a callback for casting. In person callbacks will take place June 12 from 5-10 p.m. We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to attend this in person, however, pending TUTS approval, a virtual accommodation may be available. 

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT WHAT SHOW I AM ASSIGNED TO? Two weeks before arrival, we will announce which new work you are assigned and may possibly be shared some resources in advance to get familiar with the concept of the show.

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT WHAT ROLE I HAVE BE CAST IN? You will find out upon arrival. A new work is constantly in evolving so characters in the show might be added a day before we begin. This is why we will wait until day 1 to announce what role(s) you will be assigned. There will be principal, featured, and ensemble roles that are ALL integral to a new works development.

WILL WE BE LEARNING CHOREOGRAPHY? All actors should be prepared to participate in some sort of choreography. Most likely, all selected new musical works will involve choreography or movement of some kind. When submitting your audition, there will be an opportunity to submit a dance reel showcasing your ability.

WILL WE NEED TO SIGN A CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE? Yes. Please understand that this is a new work that is the proprietary right of the writer(s), and/or lyricist(s), and composer(s). We will ask all student actors to complete a confidentiality agreement stating the understanding that any script/song material given during the week is to not be shared, posted, or copied.

WILL WE NEED TO PACK A LUNCH? Yes. There will be a designated lunch hour each day for students to eat their packed lunch. No refrigerators or microwaves will be available, so please pack accordingly. Don’t forget to bring a fillable water bottle!

WILL WE GET A KNOW BEFORE YOU GO? Yes. Two weeks prior to your registered week, you will receive a KBYG including all pertinent information related to drop off/pick up, parking, schedules, attire, and important updates.

WHEN ARE THE DATES? There are two weeks to choose from:

  • Week 1: July 28 – August 2
  • Week 2: August 4 – 9
