Why Support TUTS?

 Your tax-deductible gift allows TUTS:

  • To train future artists
  • Introduce musical theatre to new audiences through a six show season and our annual free summer musical at Miller Outdoor Theatre
  • Reach out to children of all-abilities through specialized programs in schools, hospitals, community centers, and more.

Giving a Gift

Gifts of Cash

You can Donate Now or mail a check payable to TUTS to Theatre Under The Stars, ATTN: Development, 800 Bagby, Ste. 200, Houston, TX 77002.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities

You may receive greater tax benefits by giving a gift of appreciated stock than giving cash. Your tax deduction should be equal to the fair market value of the stock at the time of the gift, and you should avoid having to pay capital gains tax on any appreciation.  Your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock directly to TUTS. For more information, contact Gina Sullivan, Director of Development at 713-558-2655 or

Memorial and Honorary Contributions

Making a donation to TUTS provides a wonderful opportunity  to honor or remember someone special or to remember a special occasion through a memorial gift or an honorary gift. Such gifts are great ways to make a lasting impact on the lives of others, just as the honorees have done for you. When a memorial or honorary gift is received, a personalized tribute card will be sent to the honored person or family notifying them of the donation, the amount of the donation will not be revealed. Through our Donate Now you can make a memorial or honorary gift online or you can mail your donation to Theatre Under The Stars, ATTN: Development, 800 Babgy, Ste. 200, Houston, TX 77002. Every memorial or honorary gift is tax-deductible to the extent of the law and the donor will receive an acknowledgement for their donation.

Make TUTS the Beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or 203(b)

You can designate TUTS as the beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or 203(b). When meeting with your financial advisor, you can choose to donate all or part of your IRA, 401(k), or 203(b) to TUTS.

Distribution of the funds in your IRA, 401(k), or 203(b) plan should be clearly stated in writing and you should make your final wishes known by placing instructions in your will. Upon your death, your wishes will be carried out to donate all or a portion of the funds of your IRA, 401(k), or 203(b) plan to Theatre Under The Stars.

You can also choose to donate to TUTS from your IRA, 401(k), or 203(b) plan now in amounts of up to $100,000 tax-free. This can be done at any time and not just upon death. This donation, however, does not qualify as a tax deduction, but rather the money taken from your IRA, 401(k), or 203(b) plan and given to TUTS is given or donated free from taxation.

Any easy way to donate to TUTS is through your Will or Trust. A bequest allows you, the Donor, to retain unlimited control of your assets during your life, and receiving a full tax deduction of the benefits donated upon death. Certain IRS rules and regulations govern this area, so we recommend seeking qualified legal representation when making a bequest. For more information or to make a bequest, please contact Gina Sullivan, Director of Development at 713-558-2655 or

Life Insurance Gifts

A gift of life insurance can allow you, the donor,  to make a more substantial contribution than would otherwise be possible. In addition, a charity owning a life insurance policy has the option of accessing the policy cash value with loans of withdrawals, or holding the policy for the death benefit. The gift of an existing policy is relatively “painless” to donor in several respects.

The transfer is simple; all that is required to complete the transfer is a change of ownership form. Absent a loan on the policy, donor does not recognize income no matter how large the gain. In addition, because a policy is not an asset generally used by donor for current income, it is not often perceived as a “loss” of an asset.
